"Clothe yourselves, therefore, as God's chosen people, Holy and dearly loved, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience." (Colossians 3:12)
COMPLEMENTARY passage: Galatians5:22-23
The gentleness and goodness are valuable and necessary, because they prove the good of others and we identify with the character of God, because he is the only really good and benign.
Kindness seeks to sweeten affably angry cores with soft words and acts of mercy, bringing hope. Moreover, the soul which enjoys kindness is as a lamp oil-filled: with good example enlightens those who go wrong, Anoints with a soft conversation to the afflicted, serves as a medicine by its virtues to the rough soul, and especially spread of that divine and supernatural love.
In addition, the benign person knows how to listen without grow impatient by the stupidity of others ignorance, or the shyness that is approaching him; comes without hardness, without abuse, forgiving. Kindness is the opposite of severity, the roughness of the grumpy, or the coldness of the indifferent.
We don't have in our language the term that properly expresses the meaning of this word: since the kindness, is only used to signify sweetness and this kind of sweetness is to handle others with gusto, cordially, with joy, without feeling the difficulty that those who have only the kindness as a virtue and not as a result of the Holy Spirit.
In the same way we say that goodness is very similar to the kindness, we can say that it is love in action. Goodness is an expression of love, which makes the soul is noble and charitable, inspires the sacrifice and laudable actions are never missing. In other words, genuine goodness is our response to the love of God, as the Scriptures show us.
