"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)
COMPLEMENTARY passage: Job 22:21-30
A story tells that a man spent many years in jail; He finally finished his sentence, and the only thing that interested him was to apologize to his father for all the pain that it had caused him, if he was still living. He wrote a letter asking for forgiveness and to give a signal to find out if he had been able to actually forgive him.
Signal was that the father would put a white handkerchief in the old tree that was opposite the old paternal House, if you have forgiven his son. If passing on the bus I saw the scarf, then he would be with his father. If I didn't see anything, you would understand that I had not forgiven him and continue their way. When the time came, the emotion was upon him and may not look for himself, asked his companion's seat it told what he saw. The woman could not say anything, so opening their eyes to see what was happening, found something that he could not believe. There was a white handkerchief... tree was full of white handkerchiefs! So God's forgiving and healing love. He takes the initiative and looking for the man to be reconciled with him, to remove any barrier that sin raised, to erase guilt and clean wickedness, so that man can enjoy it as Pope. He is faithful and just, and that it is willing to forgive us no matter how severe was the mistake. His love is greater than any failure.
The only thing that is required is that we come to him humbly, recognize and confess our sins and take the decision to move away from them, living only to please him. Thus the Lord Jesus teaches us when he saved the woman caught in adultery, to avoid that it was stoned by the men of the village. She looked at him with deep love and compassion, and seeing repentance she had, said: "neither do I condemn you; "go, and Sin no more" (John 8:11). His repentance should be accompanied by a clear intention to change, move away from their old ways. Only thus could enjoy permanently this wonderful forgiveness.
WE TALK WITH GOD
Father God thank you for this beautiful moment to reconcile me with you, have mercy on us, o God, according to your unfailing love; According to the multitude of your tender mercies blot out our transgressions. Wash us more and more of our iniquity, and cleanse us from our sins... Create a clean heart in us, o God, and renew a right spirit within us. (Psalm 51:1-2, 10) Help us to get in peace with you; and you will make us prosper again. We will again look to you, learning and practicing your teaching, you return us happiness and anything we feel shame. You keep all your promises, we listen in our prayers and our lives will be always illuminated. "You will save us" Amen.
